OCEAN SAILING ACADEMY

The Southeast's Premiere Sailing School

Our Sailing School Story
Ned Goss and crew racing Melges 24
Our story has two beginnings ...

Founded in 1997, Ocean Sailing Academy began as a Serious Sailing School for Serious Sailors.

In 2006 Ocean Sailing Academy was purchased by a sailor who sailed for fun, so the dimension of fun was added: Sail Calm, Sail Confident, Sail for Fun.  Ned Goss, the new owner, is a Five-time National Champion in the Fireball Class, a Two-time North American Champion in the Fireball Class, and a Two-time U.S. Sailing Team Member in the Olympic 49er.

In 2010 Ocean Sailing Academy added a strong dose of international sailing by partnering with ondeck in the UK and Caribbean.   Now we:

  • Sail For Fun
  • Sail Seriously
  • Sail Internationally

Our Vision:
To continue to expand sailing offerings to include the wider community of recreational and professional sailors. Our school embraces our community, assists local fundraising efforts, contributes to the green movement, and engages families and visitors in one of the finest low-impact forms of transportation and engagement with the outdoors available.

Our office on Charleston Harbor
Our Goals:
  • To instill in novice and experienced sailors an appreciation for safety, forethought and reasonable expectations of sailing so that they can get the most from their own sailing adventures.
  • To transmit the skills and knowledge that will set our students in the direction of a lifelong love affair with wind and water.
  • To offer our perspective of sailing as a great social pastime, a platform for boosting self confidence, and a portal to wonderful adventures all over the world.

What you can expect:
  • Excellent, personalized, friendly instruction in a small group setting.
  • A variety of teaching methods to accommodate all learning styles.
  • Quality in everything we do.
